A very common plant, growing wild in hedgerows, thickets and forest edges. The branches are covered with thorns. The stems of the flowers and leaves are prickly. The five-petalled flowers are usually light pink. The fruits are known as 'Hips'. Cultivated in Southern France, Provence.
